Dragonsclaw is a dark, opaque crystalline material. It has an eerie purple and black glow, almost like a black light. It grows in sharp, jagged crystals that look similar to the claws of a dragon. It is a very brittle material, and can easily be shattered or pulverized. When set ablaze, it burns slowly and calmly, leaving behind cinders that easily blow away in the wind. The material is banned outside of Obsydia for its dangerous properties, but that hasn’t stopped the widespread smuggling, black market sales, and illegal harvesting.
Dragonsclaw conducts magic across plains of existence and is widely used for its many psychoactive and shamanistic properties; altering both mind and body alike. It is especially dangerous as cosmic entities attempt to exercise their powers through the material to gain access to worlds they normally cannot. Prospectors and scholars alike have claimed to hear voices when near the material, with some even being driven to madness. Prolonged exposure to the material causes it to fuse to one’s body, becoming parasitic, with the host needing to fight back against the arcane desires of the worlds beyond. If the host can focus, then the powers of the void are theirs to manipulate. If the host fails, they will become possessed by an unworldly entity and transform into unspeakable horrors. These extreme capabilities give Dragonsclaw a varying set of uses from blood magic to cultist magic.
Dragonsclaw can be found growing natively amongst the charred and tainted lands of the Obysdia. The Obsydia cultivate Dragonsclaw to fuel their obsession with dark magic, twisted rituals, and disturbing body horrors, which taints the land even further, creating the perfect environment for more Dragonsclaw to grow. Hauntings have been known to intensify when large amounts of it are present, and it can even “feed” off the local energy to accelerate its growth.
